I’m back already – I know – shocking right? Told you I had a lot to write about.
I just want to bring you in on a little hair project I’m
currently working on. Via a lovely blog
which I have completely lost the name of (put your hand up please if it was you-hoo) , I recently had the good fortune to
stumble across this little beauty. A
full copy of a 1952 book on pincurl sets.
Now, I’m not a 50s girl by any stretch, but I could not turn up the
chance to perfect my pin curl technique on these simple looking patterns.
So, over the next couple of months I plan to work my way
through each and every one of the styles in this book. Some will suit my hair type and others won’t, I am sure, but the practise will do me good, give us all some laughs and I, and
maybe even you, will learn some pincurling tips along the way.
All you really need for any of the styles in this series is:
All you really need for any of the styles in this series is:
- setting lotion (anything will do - I'm currently using Black n' Sassy)
- Spray bottle
- rat tail comb
- pin curl clips and /or bobby pins
- a bristle brush of some kind
- hairspray
- patience
So gather your supplies and perhaps we can work through this together. I'd love to see how others get on with the same patterns.
The first pattern in the book is the Ava Gardner. I'll update you on Sunday with my thoughts and my results with this pattern and details of the next on the list!
Ooh this excites me!! I wanna have a go! xxx
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of this! I still can never seem to bring myself to do pin curls vs. my trusty rollers, hopefully your project will inspire me!

hurrah - sorry for forgetting you - my brain is like a sieve!
DeleteOoh, I look forward to this. I'm most envious of ladies who can set their hair, I've never been able to manage it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try the Lauren Bacall set I love her hair in that photograph. Thanks for sharing! Emily.
ReplyDeleteI really want to try the Vera Ellen and Lauren Bacall ones so can't wait to see how you get on with the styles xx
ReplyDeleteOoh, wanna see the results!
ReplyDeleteI always do pincurls, not rollers, but my hair is SOO thick that its hard to get right in place, and it always come out different... Need to practice more i guess.
Ha lovely, I used to pin curl a lot when my hair was longer, as it is quite thick it was the only way to get curls strong enough to stay in. I want to back to it now am getting my lengths back, although it is a bit uncomfortable, for a lasting effect it can't be beat. Looking esp to add waves so any tips on that would be a treat.
