Such a gay day!

Good morning, afternoon or evening one and all.

Regardless of the time please raise your glass to....British Politics.

Just a quick post here to share a bit of joy with you all.  Yes, it is official, the British Government have said “Yes” to equal marriage.

Not only that but the vote was overwhelmingly in favour, yes, even in these days of seemingly increased conservatism it was equality wot won it, with a 225-vote majority.  Of course the Tories didn’t, on the whole, back the decision but that’s what democracy is about children and the majority hath spoken.

This is a landmark moment for Britain and I could not be more thrilled.

Here are some lovely vintage LGBTQ-ers, in celebration of this momentous day.

adorably camp

Why don't gay clubs still look like this?

Oh, what a drag...

Happy and gay

Lovely Butch Femme Brassai shot

love the height difference with these boys

This one just makes me go all unnecessary

Matching hats

Too.  Much . Handsome

I'll take the one in the pinstripes please
There is nothing more to say really.  Apart from the fact that I REALLY wanted to title this "Bottoms Up" but restrained myself.  Well, until writing that.  Ahem.

  2. For a lot of really wonderful pictures of women in vintage drag, and great information about the variety of same-sex relationships shared by women in the past, check out a book called "Women in Pants: Manly Maidens, Cowgirls and Other Renegades".

    Also, bravo, Britain!

  4. Go, Britain! There are some seriously silly people out there that feel the need to spread their intolerance publicly and it´s very important that governments make a statement for equality. If two people (or three, or four, or ...) love each other they should have all opportunitites to celebrate that no matter how their sexuality is categorized.
Also: Wonderful selection of photos :)

  5. YAY!! Over here in my state it's a "civil union", but we were happy to get that and all the rights associated with it when the law went into effect almost 2 years ago, even if it's not federally recognized (maybe someday).

Cheers to this new step for Britain!

  6. Definitely a good day for British politics and we certainly don't get many of them!

  7. This made me so happy when I heard it on teh news last night, but also extremely disappointed in Australia. I am so tired of the Australian political system. It no longer represents the people and as such, I have little faith in it. However, this is great news for Britian and a wonderful post! x

  8. My mum and godmother were looking through some photos from the 1940s and 1950s and pointed out one of Wilfo, a lesbian lady who lived in their village. She was married to a gay man, and both went up to the city at weekends to 'do their thing'. I was quite surprised that there would have been such a level of toleration in rural Norfolk then, although possibly the marriage had something to do with it.

Nice to think that today's Wilfos can marry their ladies.

  9. Big fingers crossed for it progressing smoothly through the Lords. It should do - it is clearly the right thing to do!

  10. So glad to hear this! I live in the U.S. and definitely do NOT agree with the furor over gay marriage! Geez, live and let live! Who cares who is marrying who (or should it be "whom" :)?! Looking forward to your continuing series!!

  11. Congratulations Britain! What a wonderful event in history. I do hope this precedence encourages America to follow suit across the country.

  12. LIKE LIKE LIKE!!!! The night after the election here in Washington state, there were rainbow flags and broken champagne bottles all over the city of Seattle (specifically Cap Hill). Oh, these things give me hope for our species.

Great vintage pics, and I think I will be stealing the phrase of 'going all unnecessary.'
